Global Effects of the Regulation
In a recently published article for the June edition of the Liechtenstein Bankers Association “BankenMagazin”, Alex Merriman discusses various aspects relating to the impact of the extensive global and EU regulatory framework now being introduced for market infrastructures. These aspects also include coverage of the origins of the framework; the key regulatory initiatives being proposed, such as EMIR; and the impact on infrastructures, including the SIX Group companies, SIX x-clear Ltd and SIX SIS Ltd, and its clients.
Alex Merriman has been handling the external regulatory affairs for SIX Securities Services, the post-trading arm of the SIX Group, since joining them in Zürich in October 2010. After graduating from Trinity College, Oxford, Alex’s early career was spent at the Bank of England, where he specialized in EU financial services issues, as well as an extensive spell as a banking supervisor. More recently, he led the British Bankers’ Association work on Market Infrastructure and Financial Market issues, also chairing the European Banking Federation’s Clearing & Settlement Working Group, and being present in the European Commission’s advisory groups lifting the Giovannini Barriers and implementing the Code of Conduct for market infrastructures.
